We created 2 categories as unpaid, Sick (unpaid) and personal (unpaid). if the employee tries to put in time off but they do not have any paid leave left, tells them they are negative. and they know to go in and select the unpaid option.
Then we run the payroll report at the end of the month, it tells payroll who took leave as unpaid. We can also see in their bank how many unpaid hours they take.

ARANDYLLAMA COGBURN the categories are visible to all employees. If a teacher gets a notification that their request will give them a negative balance then they can choose the unpaid option. We have also used the multiple reason option for partly paid and partly unpaid.
